Hair loss can be caused by a variety of factors, including genetics, age, hormonal changes, medical conditions, and certain medications or treatments.
There are many types of hair loss (alopecia), which can affect hair anywhere on the body. Alopecia can be divided into two main categories: non-scarring and scarring.
Non-scarring hair loss is the most common type, and it can be caused by different factors, such as genetics, hormones, and changes in the hair growth cycle. Two common types of non-scarring hair loss are androgenic alopecia (male and female pattern hair loss) and telogen effluvium.
Alopecia areata is a type of non-scarring hair loss that can affect hair on the head or body. It is an autoimmune condition that occurs when the immune system mistakenly attacks hair follicles, leading to hair loss. Although the exact cause of this condition is not fully understood, research suggests that it may be related to autoimmunity. Treatment options are available, but the success of treatment depends on the severity of the condition and the individual's response to treatment.
Traumatic alopecia is a type of hair loss that results from repetitive tension on the hair. It is more common in children and can be caused by hair pulling or hairstyles that put too much strain on the hair.
Scarring hair loss is less common and is known as cicatricial alopecia. All forms of cicatricial alopecia result in a hair follicle that is irreversibly destroyed and replaced by scar tissue.
Androgenic alopecia is more prevalent in males than in females, with approximately 50% of men and 15% of women being affected. It is caused by a combination of genetics and hormones.
Classic pattern of male hair loss begins above the temples and at the vertex, resulting in a M-shaped hairline. It typically does not progress to complete baldness and leaves hair at the sides and back of the head intact.
In contrast, female pattern hair loss causes diffuse thinning of hair over time without a recession of the hairline.

Whilst FDA approved hair loss solutions like minoxidil and finasteride have been proven to be effective in the treatment of alopecia, there a number of reasons why you should consider your options very carefully. Examples of this are:
Results only last as long as treatment continues. When you quit minoxidil, any new hair you have regrown will fall back out.
The treatment covers symptoms, but it does not treat the root cause.
If you do not see results after 4 months, you should consider discontinuing treatment.
You need a prescription for finasteride.
In addition there can be some pretty nasty side effects too…The most common include local irritation, including itching, flaking, burning, rashes. loss of sexual desire & erectile dysfunction, changes in sperm production and gynecomastia.
There are no known side effects of Plantmade products.

All our products are freshly crafted in small batches. Please allow up to 10 working days (14 calendar days) for your order to be handmade, packed and prepared for dispatch.You will receive a shipping confirmation email as soon as your parcel is on its way.

US Shipping Update (Effective September 1, 2025)
For our US customers: From Sept 1, 2025, shipments may include customs duties, payable directly to US Customs. Please keep your contact details updated. Returned orders may only qualify for a partial refund.
Yes. From September 1, 2025, all orders shipped from the UK to the US are subject to customs duties. These duties are set and collected by US Customs, not Plantmade.
- After your order ships, US Customs may contact you directly by email or phone to arrange payment.
- Duties are not included in your Plantmade order total and are not payable to us.
- Please make sure your email and phone number are correct at checkout so Customs can reach you.
If duties are unpaid or the package goes unclaimed, the order will return to us. In this case, we can only issue a partial refund, because carriers charge us high fees when shipments don’t clear customs.
